For the best views of Phoenix, people climb the Piestewa Peak located at the end of Squaw Peak Drive. Make sure you are wearing good hiking shoes, a hat, sunglasses and water. This peak is the second highest point in the Phoenix Mountains and gets thousands of climbers per week.

For a family picnic Boyce Thompson Arboretum is an excellent choice. Cactus Garden and the Cactus Greenhouse at Boyce Thompson Arboretum show off more than 800 different kinds of cacti. Pets are allowed as long as they are on a leash. You can also find plenty of camping grounds, motels and restaurants nearby.

Those into architecture will love Arcosanti, an experimental town, designed by architect Paolo Saleri for 5,000 inhabitants. The town hosts many interesting events each year such as Carnival In Venice, Juneteenth Celebration and Italian Night where you can have a lavish Italian meal.
