Arcosanti - Meyer, AZ
Located in Yavapai County, the Arcosanti project is an experimental town, designed by architect Paolo Soleri for 5,000 inhabitants. It is 65 miles north of Phoenix in the town of Meyer, and is an experiment in reducing human impact on the natural surroundings. The project features compact structures and solar greenhouses.

Soleri came to America to apprentice with the great master architect Frank Lloyd Wright and is the mastermind behind a compact, car-less city. Soleri's residence, Cosanti, 6433 E. Doubletree Ranch Road, is open daily, with self-guided tours available, which is a good way to learn about the Arcosanti site.

At Cosanti, bronze and ceramic bells, from a hand size to a mammoth size, can be found in abundance. Find them adorning tree limbs, dangling on walls, and mounted on ceilings. These bells are cast in the foundry, where you can visit weekday mornings to watch the action.

Each year, Arcosanti hosts many interesting events such as Carnival In Venice, Juneteenth Celebration and Italian Night where you can have a lavish Italian meal

While you are there visit the Arcosanti Visitor Center (928-632-6217). Here you will find a gift shop that features interesting Ceramic bells, bronze bells and sculpture, books, CDs and local artwork.

When you want to eat, go over to the Cafe at Arcosanti for a nice buffet lunch or dinner. This cafe also serves breakfast. And just in case you want to stay for more than just a few hours, the site also has rooms available for overnight stays.
