Art Detour - Phoenix, AZ
Art Detour started with a $200 grant by the Phoenix Arts Commission, to a group of artists who wanted to hold an art walk in Downtown Phoenix. This also led to the startup of First Fridays. Now well into its 30th year, this is the largest and most well attended art event in the country, held at various venues in downtown.

The Burton Barr Central Library, 1221 N. Central Ave., is the best spot to start your tour. You may park here for free and take a free shuttle. This is also the starting point for many free Art Detour buses.

Visitors not only browse contemporary artwork in various mediums, but also get to observe the various art processes. Buy what you like, while your kids build their own masterpieces. For the young ones, Kids' Detour has proved to be a big success, bringing them to art studios where they can get a good feel of creativity and self-expression.

After a good feast for your eyes and soul it's a good idea to have a nice bite to eat. On your bus route you will come across many places where you can enjoy a nice meal and for a more refined experience step into one of the many fine dining places in the Downtown area. After recharging your battery, its time to go back to the art sprawl to a studio where live-music, and dance will keep the soul entertained.

Those coming to Phoenix for this art event can find dozens of places where they can have a convenient stay. Business executives will like Hyatt Regency Phoenix, while those on a budget will appreciate the prime location and home amenities at Quality Inn & Suites Downtown.
