Phoenix Rapid Bus System - Phoenix, AZ
Unfortunately, for tourist Phoenix's current public transportation system leaves much to be desired. Phoenix is the largest U.S. city without any rail transit system. The easiest way to get around Phoenix is by car, especially since the Greater Phoenix area sprawls over 400 square miles. All major car rental offices can be found in the city, so finding a good deal shouldn't be a problem.

There are some alternatives however, in concentrated areas. In Downtown Phoenix the Downtown Area Shuttle, or DASH, provides bus service Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. In Tempe, the Free Local Area Shuttle, or FLASH, provides bus service near Arizona State University.

Phoenix's Valley Metro provides local bus service, however routes are geared more toward commuter travelers not tourists. However, if you do decide to use the bus system, the fare is $1.25 per ride or $2.50 for an all-day pass.

In December 2008, the first line of the Valley Metro Rail system will open. The light-rail system will serve the areas of Glendale, Phoenix, Tempe and [[Mesa] and will connect to the people mover at Sky Harbor International Airport for easy transfer.
